The poem describes a girl named Amanda and her mother who is torturing her for her mistakes. At first, his mother probably hinted at him for biting his nails and not sitting in the correct posture. Mom also feels that Amanda is too lazy. To this end, Amanda imagines herself as a mermaid who leads a calm and relaxed life in the beautiful green sea.
Apart from this, he is also harassed for not cleaning his room and shoes and not doing his homework. She then imagines herself to be an orphan as she is now fed up with being constantly watched by her parents. She thinks that she would enjoy her freedom and lead a peaceful life by drawing barefoot patterns on the sand.
After this, Amanda is scolded for eating too much chocolate as it causes pimples. He also gets scolded for not obeying his mother. So, now Amanda thinks about being Rapunzel, a fairy tale character and wants to live in a huge tower like her. She will be alone in the tower and lead a peaceful life and will not allow anyone inside.
In the end, the mother tells her not to be in a bad mood as she doesn’t want anyone to blame her for troubling her daughter. The poet has not written a response on Amanda’s behalf at this time. This has made her so sad that she has even stopped imagining herself as someone else. She used to do this to escape the constant oppression and domination of her parents.
